THE WATERBORNE TRANSPORT PLATFORM FOR AFRICAN COUNTRIES
WATERBORNE TRANSPORT AFRICA FORUM has been set up as an advocacy platform to foster a continuous dialogue between all Africa-focused waterborne transport stakeholders, such as government authorities, commercial operators, shipbuilders, shipowners, maritime equipment manufacturers, infrastructure and service providers, universities or research institutes, and with international funding and development Institutions.

Strategic Objectives
- Establish a continuous dialogue between all stakeholders in Africa’s waterborne transport sector and in other waterborne-related sectors
- Contribute to ongoing debates on issues pertaining to waterborne transport in Africa
- Develop a common medium- and long-term Vision and a Strategic Research Agenda to support waterborne transport in Africa
- Contribute to the appropriate mobilisation and allocation of the necessary financial resources (private/regional/national/Donor sources)
- Contribute to the social expectations regarding clean, competitive and safe waterborne transport as well as regarding other waterborne-related activities, including education and training.
For WATERBORNE TRANSPORT AFRICA FORUM to reach its goals, it is vital that there is substantively engage all relevant stakeholders Africa’s waterborne Transport sector, such as government authorities, commercial operators, shipbuilders, shipowners, maritime equipment manufacturers, infrastructure and service providers, universities or research institutes, and with international funding and development Institutions.
This approach will pay attention to national policies across the continent that will vary according to particular challenges. Nevertheless, effective measures should be developed to enable adequate coordination and cooperation between the relevant stakeholders at continental level.
