The Convener of the Waterborne Transport Africa Forum, Michael O Banjo, addressed the UITP Africa-MENA conference in Casablanca, which took place from 11-12 December 2024. In his speech, Banjo gave a presentation on ‘Waterborne Transport in Africa: Dimensions of Principle and Practice’, and emphasized the critical role of waterborne transport in sustainable urban mobility solutions across the Africa-MENA region. He highlighted the need for collaborative efforts among governments, private sectors, and stakeholders to enhance infrastructure and policy frameworks that support efficient and eco-friendly water transport systems. Banjo also underscored the importance of innovation and technology in transforming waterborne transport into a more competitive and reliable mode of transportation. His address concluded with a call to action for increased investment and partnership opportunities to drive the future of waterborne transport in the region.
